The 35th American Cinematheque Awards, held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California on November 18, were a recurring celebration of love for the show’s main award winner, Scarlett Johansson. At an event dedicated to both the business and artistic side of the film industry, attendees heard praise for Johansson’s diverse career from Lost in translation to Jojo rabbit.
but The coverage of the Hollywood Reporter Shows there was a Johansson association that was the focus of the event: Marvel. On the one hand, it makes sense when you consider that Johansson was with the MCU for more than ten years. But it might surprise anyone who made sure to see Disney earlier this year for the digital release of. has sued Black widow.
Water under the bridge, it seems. With a Settlement signed In September Johansson seems eager to get back to work with the mouse house. Johansson is already working on Disney’s Tower of Terror, directed by Taika Waititi, as producer. She also said she has more projects in the works, including something related to Marvel. Natasha Romanoff’s time in the spotlight may be over, but Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige’s appearance at the Cinematheque Awards confirms that Johansson isn’t done with the MCU just yet.
Feige joined the other speakers of the evening – including Ironman Director Jon Favreau, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Sam Rockwell, Samuel L. Jackson and Jeremy Renner, who supplied Johansson with champagne on the red carpet – to commend the actress’ dedication and groundbreaking career.
“As Marvel Studios’ first and longest-running female heroine, Scarlett has stood her ground in a sea of men – many named Chris – paving the way for so many other characters in the MCU: Carol Danvers, Wanda Maximoff, Shuri, Jennifer Walters, Monica Rambeau, Kamala Khan, to name just a few, “said Feige on stage.
But it wouldn’t be an MCU-related event if there wasn’t a teaser about what’s next.
“We’re already working with Scarlett on another non-Black widow-affiliated, top-secret Marvel Studios project with her as a producer, “said Feige.
With the intrigue set, the rest of the evening went on as planned. Your co-stars, co-workers and family discussed details of their work together. Favreau related a story of meeting Johansson to discuss the role of Black Widow. “She showed up to the meeting with red hair,” said Favreau. “That surprised me a bit, and after she got the part I asked her, ‘Did you guys dye your hair between you and me just for the meeting?’ She says: ‘Yes, I did … to show you that I mean business.’ “
Johansson’s lawsuit against Disney was equally grave, accusing the studio of willfully breaching their contract by publishing it Black widow on Disney Plus next to movie theaters. In response, Disney released a Statement call their lawsuit “particularly sad and harrowing in its callous disregard for the dire and ongoing global impact of the Covid-19 pandemic”.
Those harsh words got a response from Creative Artists Agency co-chair Bryan Lourd, who represents Johansson. says that Disney shamelessly and falsely accused Ms. Johansson of being insensitive to the global COVID pandemic in order to make her appear like someone she and I know she isn’t.
But at the American Cinematheque Awards, it seemed all that mudfight was behind them. Whatever happened between Johansson and Disney, their long-term collaboration seems to make more sense than a battle of words for both parties.
