Netflix adaptation of Cixin Liu’s novel The three-body problem and its sequels is coming back for a second season and possibly more, the streaming service announced Wednesday. It appears that the extension is for the number of seasons the series has yet to complete. The announcement included a quote from the series’ showrunners that focused on the series’ ending, but did not specify how many seasons it might span.
“We are thrilled to be able to tell this story to its epic conclusion. Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we hoped that we could take the audience to the end of the universe. Let’s go!” said a Statement posted by Netflix on Xcredited to showrunners David Benioff, DB Weiss and Alexander Woo.
According to VarietyNetflix also said it will announce how many episodes and seasons rema in available at a later date 3 body problem
How many seasons the show will ultimately run is still up for debate. Given that the first season of the series covered the entire first book of the trilogy as well as parts of books two and three, it’s entirely possible that Benioff, Weiss, and Woo could finish the story in season 2. However, it seems more likely that the show will run for three or four seasons, if Benioff’s previous quotes are to be believed.
There’s no word yet on when 3 body problem will return to Netflix, although it’s likely that won’t happen until 2025 at the earliest.
