The third and final season of The Owl House Premieres on Disney Channel on October 15 at 9:00 p.m. EDT. However, there is a catch. Instead of an entire season, this third season consists of three 44-minute specials. Only the first of these specials will debut on October 15th. The other two are slated for a 2023 release.
[Ed. note: Spoilers for the end of season 2 ahead!]
The first special takes place immediately after the events of season two, in which plucky teen witch Luz, her friend Amity, and the rest of her friends are stranded in the human world after a strange super-powered being called Collector takes over the Boiling Islands. While the teenagers made it safely to the human world, Luz’s mentor, the mad Eda the Owl Lady, and many of the adults were left at the Collector’s mercy.
Despite critical acclaim and a huge following, The Owl House did not receive a full order for Disney season 3. As creator Dana Terrace revealed, it was simply because someone decided the show didn’t fit the Disney brand. Whether that’s due to the more serialized episodes compared to other Disney animated series, the fact that it’s about witches and demons, or the fact that it features prominent queer characters is unclear.
The first two seasons of The Owl House stream on Disney Plus.
