unpacking was one of the best games of 2021, wasn’t it simple make my personal GOTY listbut the entire site is too. It is currently available on PC, Mac, Switch and Xbox One. It is definitely not available on Apple’s iOS devices.
And yet! earlier today, The best free download on the App Store, beating even YouTube, Tik-Tok and Instagram, was a game called Unpack master, which, as you might have guessed from the price,Point and platform, is not only inspired by unpackingbut is a criminally shameless clone of it. (IIt has since slid back down the charts.)
From the name, to the premise, to the point of view, to the art style, to the music, to the way it’s framed, this is unpacking! Only it’s not, it’s a game that a bunch of assholes whipped up to capitalize on unpacking is awards, um Earn fast cash with in-app purchases.

The game is also available on the Google Play Store for Android devices where it is currently at #2. The fact that it looks and sounds like it unpacking, down to the name, is so close to the original that people accidentally download this, assuming it’s simply a mobile version made by developers Witch Beam. For example, here is the top listed rating on the Google Play Store:
I downloaded this on a whim without looking at the developer… I was really hoping that this would be a mobile version of Unpacking from Witch Beam and Humble Games that has an incredible story. This feels like a rip off, right down to the rooms and the items in them.
It also sounds like a game that sells itself as relaxation is also destroying the vibe with ads:
I love the concept of this game, but the constant ads popping up unannounced every five seconds make it basically unplayable. it cancels out every relaxing aspect of the game and makes me pull my hair out.
fuck that! And fuck publisher SayGames Ltd. If you see this advertised on any of the shop fronts, please do not download it.
