The early morning hours The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Don’t give yourself a really good shield. The game spends a lot of time showing you how to fuse items into your shield for cool utility. But if you want one that can take a lot of hits? Your early shield options are pretty paltry. Luckily, Link’s legendary Hylian shield is actually accessible fairly quickly in the new Switch game. It’s dangerous to go alone. So take this handy guide with you, which will show you exactly where to go.
The Week in Games: Return to Hyrule
Monday 3:53 p.m
First you need to work through the first tutorial and return to Hyrule. So it will take at least two hours to get to the resting place of the Hylian shield. But once you’re back on the surface after Link’s Journey into the Sky, it’s a fairly short detour to pick up our hero’s signature shield. You just have to fly to the docks under Hyrule Castle.
To get this done in the early hours, it’s best to do some of the story missions first. Meet Purah at Central Square and help her build the Skyview Tower. This will give you the Glider, which will be extremely useful for getting to the Hylian Shield (and actually for traveling anywhere in Hyrule). Once you’ve received this gift from Purah, grab your bow and arrows and set off for Hyrule Castle. You don’t actually need to enter the floating cursed hellscape just yet, so don’t worry about battling endgame-level enemies. Instead, all you have to do is navigate around it until you reach the back of its perimeter to the north. You can do this by climbing around the rock formations on either side of the castle grounds or, if you’re feeling brave, walk right through the castle itself.
Once you reach the north side, descend into the deeper depths below the floating castle where you will find an opening that looks like it was once for boats. Here you will find the docks of Hyrule Castle. The room is filled with powerful enemies and corruption that are probably best avoided if you get here early, but luckily we don’t have to delve too deep to find the Hylian Shield.
When you reach the docks you will notice a long staircase leading to a higher level with a brazier surrounded by torches. Aim your bow with an arrow through one of the torches and shoot the brazier. This will raise a chest off the ground, and inside you’ll find Link’s legendary Hylian shield. Its base defense is 90, higher than any other shield in the game.
Unlike the master sword, however, the shield may breaks if hit often enough that even the best shield in the game is vulnerable to it Tears of the Kingdomweapon degradation. In breath of the wildIf the Hylian shield broke, a replacement shield could be purchased from a vendor. We’re still trying to figure out what you need to do to get a new Hylian shield Tears of the Kingdom, and we’ll update this guide when we do. However, if you’re looking for the best item in the game for all your blocking and parrying needs, the Hylian Shield is a relatively quick and easy fix even if you’re just starting your journey in Hyrule.
