“Gotta go fast” is Sonic the Hedgehog’s famous mantra – but there’s so much more for him as that. Sonic is a fighter, a hacker, an explorer, a lover and Sonic Frontiers will explore every facet of one of our most complex pop culture icons.
In a new three-minute synopsis video (longer if you watch it more than once like me), Sega details the breadth and depth of the action and adventure the Blue Blur will experience Sonic Frontiers. For those who’ve been following the game – and those who haven’t – this is a much-needed breakdown, as the differing previews have kind of made it unclear how it all fits together.
There’s all sorts of stuff here: an upside-down world called Cyber Space for visual variety, sprawling landscapes in the primary “open-zone” world of the Starfall Islands, where players can find Chaos Emeralds to advance the story, and the opening map, and a host of new abilities – many of them surprisingly combat-oriented. Really, Sonic has so many fighting moves in this game, it’s like he’s fed up with every gossip about the “sound cycle.” Prove them wrong, mate.
Sonic Frontiers starts on November 8, 2022.
