Sony has announced that it will lower the recommended retail price PlayStation 5 Slim Digital Edition at the start of the Christmas shopping season. But you’ll want to act quickly because the discount ends on Christmas Eve and is only available while stocks last.

On November 12th Sony has released a new television commercial for the PlayStation 5, which will likely hit cable and websites as parents across the country decide what to buy their kids (or themselves) for Christmas. To convince people to buy a PlayStation 5, Sony announces in its new ad that the PS5 Slim Digital Edition is discounted to $380.

Usually a The PlayStation 5 Slim Digital Edition costs $450. So that’s a $70 discount. (I don’t take things like shipping, taxes, etc. into account.) This new temporary discount, which ends on December 24th, means you can now buy a PS5 Slim and a digital game while paying about the same (or less). as one would normally do for a game and a new PS5. That is nice.

However, note that this offer is only valid for the PS5 Slim Digital Edition. So if you want a PS5 with a disc drive, you’ll either have to buy that console or buy a disc drive separately. And um, good luck with that. It should also be noted that the Slim does not come with a vertical stand. You have to buy this separately.

Finally, we must not forget that when the digital-only PS5 was first launched it was only $400. Then, Sony increased the price after the launch. Taking that into account, that means the PS5 Slim that Sony is selling over the holidays costs just $20 less than it did four years ago. Bleh.

Also, this deal does not apply to the recently released versions PS5 Pro, which still costs a staggering $700. It may be the holiday season, but Sony won’t be discounting its newest and most expensive console any time soon. Want to do some ray tracing this holiday season? You have to pay.
