Sony Interactive Entertainment will livestream a “technical presentation” with PlayStation 5 lead architect Mark Cerny on Tuesday that will focus on “the PS5 and innovations in gaming technology.” At the presentation, Sony will likely officially unveil the PlayStation 5 Pro, the long-rumored upgraded version of the current PS5 that is expected to launch later this year.
The livestream on Tuesday lasts nine minutes. Sony said
Sony’s plans to release a deluxe version of its PS5 have been reported for the past six months, thanks to Insights from analysts And Leaks in the developer documentation. The reported technical specifications of the PS5 Pro suggest an improved console that will offer excellent image quality in 4K resolution with better ray tracing capabilities. Based on these specifications, the console will offer smoother and more consistent performance, especially when connected to a variable refresh rate display.
Sony recently has teased the PS5 Pro in artwork released for PlayStation’s 30th anniversary.
The PS5 Pro appears to follow Sony’s strategy from 2016, when the company launched the PlayStation 4 Pro – an upgraded version of the PlayStation 4 with a new chassis and improved performance that aimed at 4K output. One key unknown remains ahead of the PS5 Pro’s unveiling: How much will it cost? Sony’s current PS5 launched in 2020 at two price points: a Standard Edition with a Blu-ray drive for $499.99 and a PS5 Digital Edition for $399.99. Sony has since increased the price of the Digital Edition to $449.99.
