A new game is coming to the Star Ocean franchise called Star Ocean: The Divine Power. The trailer, which was shown at the Sony State of Play event on Wednesday, showed a spaceship struggling with some sort of crisis. The crew is unable to resolve the crisis and the whole thing explodes. It’s a dramatic start to the trailer, but then we see open-world gameplay with lush environments and monsters.
The setting looks like a healthy mix of spaceship science fiction and dangerous fantasy planets, along with a combat system in which the crew fights threatening monsters. The game will feature two protagonists: one from an advanced science fiction civilization, the other from an underdeveloped planet. The player can choose one, and each one has their own allies and stories.
The selection of characters – both the protagonist you want to play and their supporting party – seems to be important to the open world combat systems. Fortunately, thanks to jetpack technology, it is easy to find your way around the game world, which looks a bit like the first pitch for anthem
The divine power is being developed by Square Enix and Tri-Ace and is slated for release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2022.
