Stardew Valley modders have some fun grandpa bed ideas

The popular farming simulation Stardew Valley starts with you inheriting a property from your late grandfather. As the scene unfolds, you will see your grandpa lying ill in bed holding a letter saying he has left his farm to you. In the original version of the scene, the grandpa’s bed looks pretty uncomfortable, like the grandpa is lying on one of those plastic folding tables. Over the years it’s become a recurring joke throughout fandom, and more recently fans have been creating mods that take cues from the niche meme.

The mods for grandpa’s bed were picked up in early April, and they’re all visual jokes riffing on the original crappy bed. The mod shown in the main image of this article turns the bed into a pretty fancy ping pong table. Another mod called “Slightly worse grandpa bed” just makes the bed a little less comfortable by breaking off a leg of the bed frame and having grandpa sleep on an uneven surface. According to the mod’s page, the creator “made it just in case the original grandpa bed wasn’t bad enough.”

This one refers to the popular family Guy Death pose meme. Here, instead of Peter Griffin lying on the floor, we see our poor grandpa.

These aren’t even all mods. Other fun examples include a mod to turn the bed into a mailpiece and the mailpiece into a tiny bed, plus another where Grandpa wets the bed.

Stardew Valley is known for having a vibrant modding scene. Whether it’s adding more delicious food or tweaking gameplay so it’s less frustrating, mods have liberally expanded the game’s world in useful and charming ways. Well, these mods are all just there to annoy grandpa. It may seem like a nuisance for him, but don’t worry – Grandpa is a heavy sleeper!
