We all know this is a sequel, and the awkward dance around its name is just tasteless at this point. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 started trending on social media last night after the four-hour commercial known as The Game Awards, due in part to the fact that it still doesn’t have a name.
Fans have been waiting for real news about a 2017 sequel for years The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, following which will reveal 2019 that Nintendo would make a sequel to the zeitgeist-destroying adventure game. Nintendo showed at E3 2021 a first trailer for the game, officially promoted, initially as Sequel to Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild—A creative choice Nintendo justified because the right name could give “little clues as to what might happen”.

At The Game Awards, fans were expecting, if not a release date, at least a full reveal of the game’s official name. It wasn’t unreasonable. After all, The Game Awards are the last major gaming showcase of the year, and BotW 2 is expected to be released in 2022 (with delays).
Instead, Nintendo showed … several seconds of the game in a short, sizzling roll that featured a styled logo and read in a “The Sequel to the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” Zelda– Font, in the lower right corner:
Yes, the Game Awards are purportedly about “celebrating gaming” by giving awards in more than two dozen categories. But each year, most of the show is devoted to “world premieres” and “world exclusives,” short sections designed to add to the hype about video games that haven’t been released yet (aka advertisements). They are peppered with indeed Commercials. Towards the end of the show, Nintendo aired one dedicated to the 2022 slate and a 10-second glimpse of games like. showed Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Pokémon Legends: Arceus. This is the only moment of the night BotW 2 popped up.
