Bungiethe studio behind destiny 2 and the elderly gloriole games, has a public announcement for all of its PlayStation 5 protectors: Double check that you are actually playing the PS5 version of the game and not the PS4 version! Don’t feel bad if you’re playing the wrong version, Sony has done a terrible job with all of these things.
destiny 2‘s next-gen p orts launched along with the PS5

Of which I’m sure PPE will help some people, it’s another reminder of how far behind Microsoft and its Sony is Xbox Smart Delivery System. I and many others joked about Smart Delivery back then. “What a silly catchphrase! Who cares!” we said. Now it’s become one of the best things in the Xbox ecosystem.

I never think about this stuff on Xbox. I just click download and the correct version of the game gets installed on my computer and all the saves and everything just works. On PS5 I have to dig around to install the correct version, or in some cases I have to install both games transfer between them. It all feels like it’s held together with duct tape and doesn’t seem like a good way to deal with it. It shouldn’t take six steps to play the right game on the right console!
And while this issue is becoming less of an issue as fewer and fewer games are released for both generations of consoles, how this will all play out on the inevitable PlayStation 6 makes me nervous.
In the meantime, for those who are still playing destiny 2 On Xbox One or PS4, Bungie also shared the news that it is reducing the game’s memory footprint by compressing some textures. It offered some comparison shots to show how little the textures are affected by the new system, and it’s looking good. Anything to make games smaller and more efficient sounds great to me!
