At last week’s TwitchCon, streamer Adriana Chechik broke her back in two places after jumping into a foam pit that seemed neither deep nor soft. She has since shared details and a video of her injuries, and they’re somehow worse than first reported.

Write last week on her Twitter accountChechik said on October 12:

So the operation went well, 5 hours 30 minutes! More fusions than expected, bones completely shattered and nerve damage to my bladder, hopefully I’ll be able to pee again in the near future…had some bleeding around the bone but overall I’m fine!

I’m in a lot of pain but feeling hopeful and ready to get the heat going again! Does anyone know where I can bling my braces and/or get a pink coating for them as I will be wearing them for a long time?

On October 13, she wrote:

I tried to sit up in PT today, I’d rather die than do that again. I hate this, my whole body hates it. I don’t want to be harsh. I don’t want to be brave I cried for an hour and the pain is so immense from all the meds I’m on. Idk if I can do that. I can’t explain this pain.

A day later she added:

For the people who ask why you jumped. Don’t try to turn me into the villain. I am among those who assumed that proper security precautions were in place. It’s like getting in a car and assuming the airbag is working and it isn’t. I’m not to blame. None of the victims are injured.

And kept writing Instagram:

I got a sponge bath today and washed my hair. Not being able to move or do something for myself is so difficult. I am very grateful to the nursing staff. I never thought I would ever be immobile. The next few days will be extremely tough. Yesterday I sat up and then spent the rest of the day in hysteria and pain. The realization of how much pain you must go through set in. Please pray that I will find the strength to stand today. I’m going to take it one day at a time and if I’m not done then I’m not done. But I would appreciate any encouragement or reading material to help me on my journey. Thanks to everyone who cheers me on!

Later that same day, she shared this video of a therapy session:

On October 15, she went to a second Surgery before being discharged from the hospital this morning:

It’s important to remember that those horrific injuries, the surgeries that followed, and the long road to recovery were the result of a mishap that happened in a foam pit. At the time of the incident, we reached out to Twitch (organizers of TwitchCon), Lenovo (sponsors of the foam pit), and Kairos Media (the creative agency that actually runs the booth), and a week later, only Lenovo has addressed the situation publicly.

Chechik was far from the only injured person at the event either; other participants shared their stories, which included more back injuries and a dislocated knee:
