Following on from its previous promise of a summer reveal, Capcom today joined PlayStation Game Status to share more footage street fighter 6which starts on playstation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC at some point next year.

street fighter 6‘s roster expands to include roster mainstay Chun-Li, newcomer Jamie (who appears to be using some sort of drunken fighting style), and Kimberly, another fresh-faced fighter who only makes a brief appearance at the end of the trailer. The game will also feature two distinct modes, one focusing on the one-on-one combat that you would expect street fighter and the other an “immersive” single-player story that appears to allow you to traverse an open world in search of battles.

Here’s what Capcom has to say street fighter 6The new mechanics of :

With every new Street Fighter comes mechanics you can master to get to the top. Introducing the propulsion system, a measuring device that you have to use wisely and that is full of creativity. You can use the Drive meter to perform five different techniques that can easily improve your offense or defense.

A drive impact is a powerful punch that can absorb an opponent’s incoming attack and result in a wall smash. Use Drive Parry to parry your opponent’s attack and refill your Drive Gauge. Break a drive parry or normal attack into a drive rush to quickly close in on your opponent. Overdrive Arts are similar to EX Moves from previous games that amplify your Special Moves. Use Drive Reversal to counterattack to get you out of tight spots. One measuring device, five techniques, unlimited possibilities. Use your creativity to choose which technique to use and when. It’s all in your hands!

For those worried that fighting game inputs are too complicated and just want to unleash their inner fighter, we have a solution in the form of a new control type option.

First off, Classic Control Type is what veterans can expect with its six-button layout for inputs.

New to Street Fighter 6 is the modern control type that allows for simpler inputs where a special move can be performed by combining the special move button with a directional input. This is perfect for newer players or those who may have found classic command prompts a little too difficult in the past.

With the modern control type, your character will perform some of their flashiest (and best) attacks with just a few button presses. Modern Control Type is optional, but we strongly encourage new players to try it!

Also new at street fighter 6 is an in-game commentary recorded by well-known figures in the fighting game community. This feature was previously seen in Indie Fighter Yatagarasu and added a lot of personality and excitement to play, so let’s hope it’s put to good use in this upcoming game.

Capcom revealed this for the first time street fighter 6 back in February with a film showing the game’s new aesthetic direction. At the time, the only fighters confirmed for their roster were series poster boys Ryu and Luke, an annoying jerk who was introduced late Street Fighter V‘s life, which is said to be the future of the franchise (gag). Reactions were mixed, with many fixating on it terrible logo (which appears to have been updated) and the fact that you could see Ryu’s considerable bulge through his gi.

street fighter 6 Leaked late last year as part of an internal release schedule released by Capcom ransomware hack. The leaked company document indicated that the game would launch sometime in Q3 2022 (October-December 2022). great and Ultra Updates are planned for Q4 2023 (January-March 2024) and Q4 2024 (January-March 2025). (Obviously, no information on these planned expansions was provided during today’s reveal.)

The evergreen street fighter Franchise has been the flagship developer fighting game for over 30 years. It first appeared in 1987 and changed the genre (and arcades!) forever by the 1991s Street Fighter II. However, the series definitely had its ups and downs in its overwhelming number of sequels and revamps.

After the release of Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike In 1999, Capcom banked the franchise for nearly a decade. It seemed like the developer had completely fallen in love with the series until renewing his vows with 2008’s Street Fighter IVwhich also spawned several updates and eventually the release of the more sports-focused one Street Fighter V in 2016.

It certainly wasn’t the best show of the series, though Street Fighter VThe longevity of has allowed the developers to salvage it from the brink of disaster and turn it into a fairly competent fighting game, all things considered.

The franchise may not be as dominant as it used to be, but street fighter‘s status as a household name is undeniable. And while Capcom’s hold on the series has been shaky, it’s also shown brief flashes of brilliance, especially since Departure from Street Fighter IV Producer and former Capcom executive Yoshinori Ono.

Anything is possible with a new team behind the wheel street fighter. And as a longtime fan, I can’t wait to see what the refreshed developers have in store street fighter 6 despite those rough early performances.
