We don’t really get to see a lot street fighter 6 when it was unveiled yesterdaybut one thing we looked at was the game’s logo, and I didn’t think we’d get to a point where fans would (rightly!) question a new game’s logo if it wasn’t anything more substantial objectionable, but here we are.
street fighter is not only one of the most popular video game series of all time, its logos are among the all-time greats and perfectly represent the setting and style of the games. This splashy, martial font has become as iconic as each of the characters in the series from the release of the first game in 1987 through 2016, and as you can see in the image below Street Fighter V Capcom maintained a clear sense of continuity, connecting each new game to the last:
Now let’s take a look street fighter 6 and… ah.
That beautiful, combative font is gone, replaced with what looks like the logo of a studio that’s been forced into a supporting role call of Duty Games for the rest of his life. The Roman numerals are gone too, with a simple “6” instead. And the game’s logo itself is just… a big SF?
It looks bad. Bad as a coffee roaster that only advertises on Instagram. Bad as a company that makes cheap uniforms for social sports teams. Bad as, well:
But wait, it gets worse. as Ars Technicas Aurich Lawson mention, thatnot only does the large “SF” part of the logo look like clipartit looks very much like it a very specific clipart available for $80 on Adobe’s stock site:
Sure, a few changes have been made, such as Softer angles at some corners and a thinner border, but overall they are unbelievable similar. Here they are side by side for comparison:
And if that’s not on point, here’s an overlay with the Capcom logo in white and the Adobe clipart in grey:
whoops capcom, Their income hit “record levels” last yearI think you can afford a repeat.
