Suicide Squad’s developers spent last year ripping out gear scores

Suicide Squad The developers have confirmed that Gear Score, one of the most controversial elements of Rocksteady’s upcoming co-op shooter, has been completely removed from the game. However, the game is still a looter shooter.

Suicide Squad comes from Batman Arkham City developed and takes place in the same version of the DC Universe. If rock steady began publishing Gameplay footage (not to mention all of that Leaks), everyone’s fans were worried Live service elements. A very despised aspect was the inclusion of equipment ratings, as seen in games like… Destiny 2. For skeptical fans, it was another indication of this Suicide Squad was not the individual player Batman sequel they wanted. But now the developers have announced that the gear score has disappeared Suicide Squad.

On January 12th The developers held a question and answer session in the Official Discord server of the game. At one point, someone asked about the different rarity levels of loot in the game, and game director Axel Rydby revealed that it was one of the studio’s “core design philosophies.” Suicide Squad was to create a gear system whose power does not “increase linearly” and that provides a “clear path” to the best loot.

“With that in mind, one of the biggest changes we’ve made in the last year is removing Gear Score from the game,” Rydby said. “This change means that players who, for example, find a legendary weapon that they simply love at the start of the game can use it without fear of shooting themselves in the foot (so to speak) if they don’t equip another weapon a higher equipment value.”

Rydby further explained that instead of looking for higher gear points, players now want to find cool loot that best suits their build, playstyle, or favorite gear.

“A big part of our endgame is theorizing which pieces of gear can work synergistically and how to construct builds. “That’s one of the things I’m really looking forward to when we release the game – seeing what crazy builds you all come up with,” Rydby said.

The rest of the Q&A goes into great detail about the loot, making it clear that while the game is gone, it remains a cooperative looter-shooter at its core. Still, it’s nice to see how the developers are responding to player feedback and removing such a hated element Suicide Squad. Will it help win over fans who aren’t excited about this upcoming game? Probably not. But it could help make the game better in the end.
