Last year, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate announced that sora off Kingdom Hearts would be the last character in the list of fighting games. But that hasn’t stopped fans from trying to add their own favorites to the game. yesterday, a fan uploaded a mod that lets smashed Players turn Hero into Crono off Chrono trigger. And it looks good enough to have been official DLC (h/t: event hubs).
According to the description on Spades mod pageThe mod adds Crono as seven alternate costumes for Hero dragon quest. The mod also turns Hero’s “Magic Burst” (his down special) into a green spell called Luminaire. The modder has chosen to keep the hero’s ability name to avoid confusion with the hero’s main content. The mod even comes with a custom crono Outfits for Kirby, which transforms when swallowing an enemy. While doing his own 3D sculpting, Pik has also enlisted other modders for cloth rigging, headband physics, and scripting.
Spades is an experienced modder who creates skins for other characters such as Nintendo of the mother Series, gold out Pokemonthe original harvest moon protagonistand shortcut from the original Die Legend of Zelda Game. Most of his creations are pretty retro or older versions of modern Nintendo characters.
Chrono trigger is a classic RPG originally released in 1995. If you don’t have a SNES, you can still play it PC port to Steam. Crono plays the silent protagonist and fights using spells called “Techs”. Luminaire is a light spell that damages multiple enemies and is Crono’s strongest ability in the game. So it’s fitting that Spades chose to mod it in his fan-made skins.
For years I’ve had to listen to players complaining when their favorite character doesn’t make it to the smashed roster. It’s pretty cool that Pik was willing to take matters into his own hands.
