Symbiogenesis, Square Enix’s NFT game, looks like complete shit

Pretty much every time we put a video game trailer on this site, we either do it because we think it’s cool, or we use it to illustrate some kind of gameplay or cinematic point. In this case, however, we do neither.

In this case, we’re here to amaze. To wonder. Even to laugh. At symbiogenesisaka Square Enix’s NFT game, which got its first “proper” trailer today.

SYMBIOGENESIS Teaser Movie vol.1【CINEMA SIZE ver.】

This is a big project for the company! This is partly why they dumped Tomb Raider! So they could… make a game about… selling NFTs. That’s it. That’s what this game is about (not that you can infer anything else from this dreary footage). It’s about Square Enix making 10,000 NFTs and then trying to sell them as items in a video game, in The Year Of Our Lord 2023, a full year after the whole NFT scam gave up their ass and the only people who it doesn’t matter, the idiots are on the left holding the bag, the assholes with names like LamboGuy6352349234.eth.

Wait, what is the game actually about?

Who knows! symbiogenesis The website is incredibly vague, leaving information on everything from gameplay to history languish in a short, text-based FAQ.

When this trailer says “unravel the story,” they mean it (as reported by GamesHub):

Square Enix has said that all story chapters can be completed and “played to completion even without having a character NFT,” but these in-game purchases come with a specific “usefulness for those who want the NFT.” own collectible art”. Players with character NFTs can read unique stories, earn rank experience points easily, create a “replica” of their character, and receive additional NFT graphics as missions are completed.

Some story elements will be withheld from players who do not purchase NFTs, impacting the overall gameplay experience.

Unbelievable. This is the company that gave the world final fantasy. For context, let’s recap how we all got here, including Square Enix. And nothing illustrates that better than this sequence of headlines:

January 2, 2022 – Square Enix President hopes NFTs and blockchain games will become a “major trend in gaming in the future”.

April 18, 2022 – The Square Enix president still insists that the future of gaming offers blockchain technology

May 13, 2022 – NFT Market Crashes as Square Enix Sells Tomb Raider to Go Big on Blockchain

November 3, 2022 – Square Enix’s hyped mystery game turns out to be NFT junk

January 3, 2023 – After a bad year for NFTs, Square Enix boss says the company is still doing everything for them

March 3, 2023 – Square Enix CEO who constantly pushed to replace NFT games

This is the funniest short story I’ve ever read.
