Last week We shared the good news that the source code for Grand Theft Autos III & Vice city was reverse engineered so people could port the games and come up with cool new mods. Now we bring you the predictable news that publisher Take-Two Interactive is not happy.
The company, which in this case specifically lists itself as the “parent company of Rockstar Games”, has issued a DMCA acceptance notice to github. Remove the reverse engineered games from the software site.
Of course, this does not end the project. As Take-Two is no doubt fully aware, it is out there Now, on smaller websites and hard drives and torrents, and anyone who wants to work with it will have no problem finding it. And as anyone working on the project would have been fully aware of this, this is the dance these companies are forced to dance to in order to look like they are monitoring and protecting their properties.
