A good scary game is often an exciting experience. And if you’re currently a Game Pass subscriber and in the mood to play something terrifying, scary, or just plain scary, you already have access to some awesome horror games at no additional cost. That’s nice because the only thing worse than deadly monsters is expensive video games that you buy but never quit.

We here at Kotaku also enjoy scary and scary games. (Well most of us do …So here is a list of the 14 best scary games to play on Xbox Game Pass right now.

(Oh and if you’re not looking for super bloody or scary games but still want to play something on Halloween night, Check out our list of the best scary but not scary games.)

Back 4 blood

Zombies aren’t the scariest thing in the world these days, largely thanks to the many movies, shows, and games that rely on the undead. But enough of spitting acid on you or attacking your friends in the middle of the dark forest is still scary. and Back 4 blood, a co-op shooter that is very similar left 4 Dead, lets you experience this fear alone or with friends

The medium

Perhaps you are longing for a more classic horror game that focuses on slow horror and puzzles? If yes, The medium could be perfect for you. Be warned: There is some awkward content in this static camera horror adventure. But if you can take the nasty bits The medium, it’s decent Silent Hill-like a horror game.

Dead space 1, 2, 3

Sure, we’re getting a new remake of the original Empty room. That’s great. But if you want to experience (or repeat) the original Empty room Trilogy, they are all available in Game Pass. While I know a lot of love Dead space 1 and 2, I would recommend to give 3 also a chance. It’s not as good as the first two entries, but it’s still a spooky adventure through a snowy hell landscape.

Evil within 1, 2

I prefer the sequel, but both The evil in and The evil in 2 are scary survival horror games that will likely remind you Resident Evil 4. That is no coincidence either. Shinji Mikamiwho was the director of several resident Evil Games included RE4, directed the first game and was executive producer on the sequel. To like RE4, the evil inside mixes third-person action with spooky situations, spooky locations and puzzles.

Doom 3

I know some don’t like it Doom 3 for good reasons. But as a separate matter and not a continuation of Downfall 2, (what it is, but only in name …) I think Doom 3 is fantastic! His use of shadow and darkness is superb, hiding demons and other threats behind the darkness. Doom 3 also has something annoying (in a positive way!) sound design. And if you really want to get scared while playing Doom 3, I highly recommend playing the VR port of the game published on PSVR earlier this year.

Resident Evil 7

While searching Game Pass’s huge game library for some creepy titles, I was shocked to see this Resident Evil 7 on here. If you haven’t played RE7 still and you’re looking for a great scary game, stop reading this blog and go play RE7. It’s a bloody masterpiece of suspense and horror. I agree the ending is a little … meh. But everything else before that is top notch shit. Don’t let the FPS shift put you off. That is a resident Evil Game in every way.

Alien isolation

How scary can an alien be? You just hide and run to an exit. Much luck. Alien isolation is unlike basically any other game based on the popular science fiction franchise. You don’t fight waves of xenomorphs with assault rifles or play as a Predator. Instead, you’re just a person stuck on a desolate space station full of deadly androids and a truly evil and equally deadly alien creature. You can hide, you can run away, but it will find you and scare you to death.

Alan Wake American nightmare

This isn’t as intense or scary as some of the other games on this list, however American nightmare is a perfect bite-sized shooter with just the right amount of creepy villains and spooky worlds to explore. When you loved Alan Wake or the newer published steering and you didn’t play American nightmare give this one a round. And say hi to Mr. Scratch for me, the bastard.

Hello Neighbor

Here’s a strange one. When this game came out it has been impaled by critics and many gamers. But many still enjoy this stealth horror game where you have to explore your neighbor’s house. Every time you progress or get caught, the game’s AI will change its behavior based on your previous actions. Later games in the series are also available in the Game Pass. Not my cup of tea, but I know many enjoy the creepy fun of these titles.

Dead by daylight

Do you love horror games and scary films? Do you love asymmetric multiplayer games? So guys, I have a perfect game for you guys: Dead by daylight. Four players take on the role of survivors trying to hide and complete objectives. Meanwhile, one player takes on the role of a killer who tries to stop and murder them all. This game has seen many updates since its release in 2016.out new characters like Michael Myers Halloween and Ghostface from Scream.

2 outlast

The original survive is still the better of the two games, but the 2017 sequel is still a solid horror game with some really scary moments. In contrast to the first game 2 outlast is in a more rural and open environment. It makes the experience even more terrifying in some ways because you never know when you will be safe. Definitely not for the faint of heart.
