Black crab
Year: 2022
Duration: 1h 56m
Director: Adam Berg
Pour: Naomi Rapace, Dar Salim, Jakob Oftebro
With the weather getting cooler and cooler, why not wear something seasonally appropriate? You could watch a Christmas movie or this action thriller… on ice.
A Swedish action thriller set in a war-torn world, Black crab follows Caroline Edh (Noomi Rapace), a former speed skater who was drafted into the military after her daughter was kidnapped. She is recruited for a secret mission using her special abilities – to slither secretly under cover of night in a covert operation across the ice-covered Stockholm archipelago, with the promise of reuniting with her daughter in return.
Black crab is nothing fancy – it’s a thriller by the book that knows what it is and doesn’t spend too much time declaring war itself (a great choice because it literally doesn’t matter). Instead, it delivers its gimmick setup – Action Movie On Ice! And with an able genre lead in Rapace to lead the way, it’s a breezy 114 minutes of frozen fun. —pete people
Game Status
Year: 2009
Duration: 2h 8m
Director: Kevin McDonald
Pour: Russell Crowe, Rachel McAdams, and Ben Affleck
Director Kevin Macdonald’s 2009 political thriller stars Russell Crowe and Rachel McAdams as Cal McAffrey and Della Fyre, two investigative journalists from two very different generations who work together to uncover a conspiracy involving the death of a man Aide to US Congressman Stephen Collins (Affleck) and McAffrey’s close friend. Aside from being a suspenseful and coolly calibrated film fueled by two great leads, it also opens on a rainy night in Georgetown, Washington DC with a young man being pursued by a ruthless briefcase-wielding assassin . If that’s not enough to get you in the holiday spirit, I don’t know what will. -THE
The Lost Bullet Movies
Year: 2020 for Lost Ball2022 for Lost Ball 2
Duration: 1h32m for Lost Ball1h 38m for Lost Ball 2
Director: Guillaume Pierret
Pour: Alban Lenoir
The Lost Bullet movies are kinetic experiences with fast-paced car chases, hard-hitting fist fights, and plenty of bullets and explosions. Add in a uniquely compelling lead role in former stuntman Alban Lenoir and you have two outstanding crime thrillers from Guillaume Pierrot.
The first film is a straight forward crime that follows a man in a bad situation as he tries to exonerate himself from a crime he didn’t commit. It’s a tense, fast-moving film with a simple premise executed to perfection. The second film complicates the narrative with significantly more moving parts, but also ups the action when it comes to plot. —PV
The unknown
Year: 2022
Duration: 1h 57m
Director: Thomas M. Wright
Pour: Joel Edgerton, Sean Harris
Thomas M. Wright’s latest crime thriller is not only one of the best thrillers to stream this month, it’s also one of the best thrillers of the season. Do not believe me? Get a lot of that verdant forest and mountain scenery in the film’s opening, the eerie lighting of the bus ride where Henry Teague meets the suspiciously friendly Paul Emery while he’s en route to Western Australia. Aside from being a film as taut and precarious as a tightrope, The unknown is a superbly shot film that makes you want to go on holiday to Australia to escape the cold winter. -THE
