The classic Catan spinoff is getting a reboot later this year: Dawn of Humankind

katan, the forefather of the board game boom, has not only been around long enough to have a slew of spin-offs and expansions – it’s also been around long enough to relaunch those spin-offs. Out this fall Catan: Dawn of Mankind

is an upcoming standalone game based on a classic standalone game katan and brings it under the Catan brand, reintroducing fans of the strategy game to a more prehistoric version of the franchise.

According to Catan Studio, dawn of humanity is a reboot of That Stone Age settlersa strategy game based on katan which was released in 2002 and contrasted with a more prehistoric theme katan‘s rather agricultural set dressing. The new version of the game – designed by katan Creator Klaus Teuber and his son Benjamin Teuber – will introduce new mechanics to work with the Pleistocene epoch setting.

Catan – Dawn of Mankind launches October 1st in Target and hobby stores in the US, Canada, Australia and the UK.
