Denis Villeneuve became deadly serious when io9 mentioned this dune Lego set for him. “I’ll be honest with you,” he said Director of Dune: Part Two said. “I probably do films because I was originally a hardcore Lego player. I come from the first generation where there were only bricks, right? I traveled to a lot of places on these Lego spaceships, boats or whatever. And when I found out Lego was building an ornithopter, I thought, “Wow.” That blew me away
Lego was announced for the first time it was a liberation the Atreides Royal Ornithopter from Villenueve dune Series already in October. However, there was a problem. “Then they sent me a message saying it was finished and ready for the film to premiere,” Villeneuve continued. “I said, ‘What are you talking about? It’s not ready for Christmas yet?’ And they said, “No, Mr. Villeneuve, you understand, there is a strategy and it will be ready for 2024.” I was super disappointed because my children and I [love Lego].”
Luckily, there are some advantages to being the writer and director of each film. “Then I got a box for Christmas and they sent me a prototype,” Villeneuve said. “I would say I had a lot of fun playing the ornithopter…It’s incredible.”
Good with Dune: Part Two The ornithopter is finally available on March 1st. It includes seven traditional minifigures (Paul Atreides, Lady Jessica, Gurney Halleck, Chani, Leto Atreides, Liet Kynes and Duncan Idaho) and then a giant, giant version of Baron Harkonnen. “I like him a lot,” Stellan Skarsgård told io9 after laughing at a picture of his character that he had never seen before. “He stands out.”
What else stands out? Well, our editor James Whitbrook has provided us with some photos of the finished build so you can see for yourself. Check them out in this slideshow and check back soon for more from Villeneuve and the cast of Dune: Part Two.
