The newest elden ring Patch is all about solve problems of the previous updatelike a bug that transformed the most challenging boss of the FromSoftware game into a constantly regenerating monster.
“Fixed a bug with Malenia where her HP wasn’t healing correctly in the online multiplayer environment,” reads a welcome line from publisher Bandai Namco’s official patch notes, which has undoubtedly caused thousands of elden ring players breathe a sigh of relief at the same time.
I think we can all agree that fighting Malenia is the biggest obstacle elden ring. It may look easy when super talented players like it let me solo her step on the plate, but the Blade of Miquella and the Goddess of Rot is every bit the legendary warrior that the game’s lore makes her.
The inherent difficulty of the Malenia encounter was increased tenfold earlier this month when the 1.04 patch inadvertently gave her the ability to heal herself with any attack while playing online. It didn’t even matter if her sword hit you, which triggered her regeneration before the bug was introduced. She could just swipe into space and get some health back.
The fight wasn’t made impossible, of course, but the sight of Malenia undoing the progress you’d made to this point despite expertly dodging every attack was frustrating. Even someone as familiar with the boss as Let Me Solo Her described Malenia as “a nightmare to fight” while the bug was active.
Other, lesser-known issues have apparently been fixed as well. Some bosses, like the Godskin Duo and Fire Giant, had their entire health bars depleted by bleed builds or simply died when going into their second phase. There were also reports that the final boss wasn’t using all of his attacks, simplifying what is usually a major climactic battle.
Although certainly not as exciting as previous patches, elden ring should be a much more stable game after today’s update. Fingers crossed everything has been straightened out without introducing any more weirdness.
