The world of horror films is littered with prequels. Sometimes some are great (Orphan First Kill, Annabelle creation), most are pretty terrible (we don’t need to list them here), and at least some are surprisingly interesting (Leatherface, Alien: Covenant, Dominion: A prequel to The Exorcist.). Now The Omen adds its own new prequel called to the list The first omen
The teaser, released on Wednesday, plays everything in reverse order to ensure that Satanic panic vibes roll nice and strong. We see a convent and a woman who appears to be a nun having a child – presumably Damien himself – along with some demonic imagery that inspires a pretty fun horror film.
While the teaser itself is light on plot details, its YouTube description is a bit more revealing:
When a young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrible conspiracy that hopes to give birth of evil incarnate.
Returns to horror franchises haven’t had a great track record of late, between Netflix’s attempt at a Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie and last year’s terrible Exorcist entry. But there’s never a bad time for the Antichrist to return to the big screen, and The first omen
The first omen Stars Nell Tiger Free (game of Thrones), Bill Nighy (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest) and Ralph Ineson (The witch). Directed by Arkasha Stevenson (legion). The film is scheduled to hit theaters on April 5th.
