Just over a decade after the release of the last Harry Potter film, it seems it’s time to retell the young wizard’s story. HBO strikes a deal to relaunch JK Rowling’s seven-book series as a new TV show, reports Lucas Shaw at Bloomberg.
The series would adapt each of the series’ novels into a television season, according to the report. TV’s seasons would give the series more room to delve into the wizarding world of the books with less need to cut things out than the original films, which began publishing in 2001 Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
This plan is part of HBO parent company Warner Bros. Discovery’s attempt to relaunch some of its biggest brands. This strategy began a few months ago with the announcement that James Gunn and Peter Safran were taking over DC Studios, and continued a few weeks ago with news of rebooted Lord of the Rings films that bring JRR Tolkien’s classic books back to the Bring canvas for the first time in 20 years.
