The Last of Us actress Annie Wersching, who played Tess in the game, has died

Annie Wersching, who played Tess in the original The last of us video game, died of cancer. The actor was 45 years old.

Wersching is best known to the gaming community as Tess, but has also had a successful television career, appearing in two seasons of 24 as Renee Walker on the Amazon detective show Boschand most recently in the second season of Star Trek: Picard as Borg Queen. After meetingWersching continued to work after her cancer diagnosis in 2020.

The makers of The last of us The TV show Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann said they would dedicate the moving third episode of last night’s show to Wersching.

“Tonight’s episode is extra poignant in ways we never hoped or wished for, and we dedicate it to Annie’s memory.” Mazin and Druckmann said. “It may be too late to get this on screen for tonight, but we will work to get it done as soon as possible.”

Druckmann, who also helped create the game, gave further credit on twitter. “We have just lost a wonderful artist and human being. My heart is broken. Thoughts are with their loved ones,” he said.

Among many others who paid tribute to Wersching was her 24 co-star Kiefer Sutherland. “[She] was one of the greatest actors I have ever had the pleasure of working with and my friend. My heart breaks for her young family. May she be remembered for the beautiful person she was.” he said.

Wersching is survived by her husband, actor Stephen Full, and three sons. In a statement, Full said: “There is a huge hole in the soul of this family today. But she left us the tools to fill it. She found miracles in the simplest of moments. She didn’t need music to dance to. She taught us not to wait for adventure to find you. “Go find it. It is everywhere.’ And we will find it.”
