Just as Activision Blizzard released a new patch for Overwatch 2 With sweeping changes to a handful of its heroes, one of them has been temporarily banned from competitive play due to a hilarious glitch. The newest support hero, Illari, was retired on January 9th because her buffs were so powerful that she accidentally ended up with infinite ammo.

Hero Shooter’s 38th playable character has been improved the latest patch, which went live on January 9th. The primary fire charge gain of her weapon, the Solar Rifle, is no longer interrupted when she uses the secondary fire or her ultimate ability, Captive Sun. The weapon’s ammo capacity has also been increased from 14 to 16. Unfortunately, this is exactly where Illari’s buggy problems arise Overwatch 2 Twitch streamer mL7 posted a clip on X/Twitter as the hero’s weapon continuously screams “Brrrrrrrr”.
“So Twitch chat tells me there’s a glitch with Illari right now,” mL7 says as he fires his weapon forever at an enemy tracer. “In which [she] gets infinite ammo.”
As you can see in the clip above, Illari’s mL7 ammo capacity goes into the negative, but he continues firing the rifle without ever stopping to reload the weapon. In a follow-up post on X/Twitter: He shared a picture of Illari’s ammo counter, which hilariously reached -1,000 bullets. Shortly afterwards, Activision Blizzard stepped in and removed the support hero from the game.
At the official Blizzard forums, Overwatch 2 Community manager Kaedi announced that Illari has been temporarily removed so developers can “investigate an issue where her ammo is not resetting properly.” This only affects their eligibility in Competitive Play, the game’s ranked mode for people looking for lobbies to sweat in. So you can choose them in other games too Overwatch 2 Game modes like Quick Play. The team is also investigating some other game issues, including crosshair settings not working properly, career profile data not updating correctly, and the LC-208 error code encountered terrorizing players of the game since at least October 2022. As of this writing, she is still hampered in comp play.
