When the 1.02 patch notes for the Warner Bros. fighting game come out MultiVersus first came online before the actual update, it seems that they have included an interesting change Scooby Doois Velma. The support character used to sometimes call the cops to drag away the player’s opponents, a particular move that drew some criticism and perhaps evoked particularly uncomfortable feelings when characters like the real Black LeBron James were the ones being wheeled away in police cars . The new patch notes hinted that now, in perhaps a more thematic move, she’ll be calling on her buddies at Mystery Inc. to pick up opponents in her signature van, the Mystery Machine. So instead of being unconditionally kidnapped by the police, you are kidnapped by a gang of juvenile vigilantes. Or so it seemed.
Velma used to be able to Call the police on their enemies when she has gathered enough evidence with her passive “sniffing”. While the ability isn’t foolproof, it could potentially remove the opponent from the game entirely – something some players have suggested isn’t exactly the best cozy of functions. The Mystery Machine would allegedly work the same way.
This is where the story gets weirder: This information comes from a Video
Here is the exact text from the video:
Instead of calling the police, Velma solves the mystery and calls the Mystery Inc. gang and the Mystery Machine to take the bad guys away.

So! I think it’s an improvement if Velma “Karen” Dinkley stops calling the police about her suspects. Here’s a Velma player who was initially uncomfortable with her summoning ability:
It still feels a bit awkward having criminal suspects being taken away by a van full of white teenagers. Historically, that doesn’t end well for black and brown men who are just trying to exist in the public eye. But if Warner Bros. makes the changes, the Mystery Machine would definitely seem less menacing than a literal police cruiser.
The 1.02 patch is out today at 12pm ET.
