While Russia’s ongoing and horrific invasion of Ukraine, Russian forces have taken over and occupied various nuclear power plants located in the country. In an unfortunate but likely unintentional timing, Ubisoft has revealed that the new mode is coming to Loot Shooter The department 2‘s upcoming Year 4 update is about the takeover of a nuclear power plant by enemy forces.
Your first question about all of this might be, hey wait…isn’t The department 2 like, uh, dead? 2019 The department 2 has been in a strange place for over a year. The game never ended after that either it seemed to unwind. Instead, Ubisoft delayed updates and new content while promising they had plans and would do so eventually add more to the game… someday

“The new mode called Countdown is in The department 2 has been in development since early 2021,” Ubisoft said igamesnews in a statement earlier today. “Similar to the base game, the mode is a fiction and does not correspond to the current events of today.”
Ubisoft has always fought trying to market department 2 as a serious game about war and power while trying to (paradoxically) stay it mostly separate from politics. The non-political angle is presented to the public, despite the fact that the game itself is set in the US capital of Washington, DC and features an all-powerful secret police force using military-grade hardware to protect national interests and assets.
While the new update is currently playable on the department 2 Test server for select players, Ubisoft has not yet announced a release date for when the update will go live for all players on both console and PC.
