The Sims 4The next expansion is set to release on Halloween and, as befits such a spooky time of year, the expansion is all about the specter of death. Electronic Arts released more information on Thursday about what players can expect Life and deatha new expansion that includes the city of Ravenwood, new gameplay objectives related to mortality, and the chance to become the Grim Reaper.
Sims have always been able to die – usually in ridiculous ways, like being bitten by a cow plant or crushed by a murphy bed – but Life and death
Some Sims prefer the ghost life and Life and death allows Sims to remain playable as ghosts postmortem. A ghost Sim might be up for a spooky revelry with their living spouse, while a goofier Sim might be more likely to become a playful poltergeist.
There are also two new careers for Sims to pursue. The Undertaker’s career includes digging graves, embalming corpses, and helping families mourn their deceased Sims. Morticians can eventually advance to one of two branches: undertakers or undertakers. The second new career allows Sims to don the Grim Reaper’s legendary cloak. First, they start out as Grimterns (a vocabulary word for Grim and Intern) in the Department of Death in the Underworld. Longtime Sims players have probably argued with the Grim Reaper to try to save a beloved Sim. As the Grim Reaper, the player can decide who can return to life and who will be kidnapped into the afterlife.
The expansion pack is also full of smaller features related to life and death: horror novels, ghost historians, a thanatology ability, wills, funeral events or death by a murder of crows. More details can be found in Electronic Arts’ blog post, but overall it looks like the next Sims 4 expansion will fulfill some long-standing gamer fantasies surrounding death, rebirth and soul harvesting.
