Digital Extremes revealed the first real look at Warframes next big expansion, The New War during TennoCon 2021. This new free expansion will force Tenno (aka space ninjas) throughout the origin system to band together to defeat an evil force called the Sentients. And for now This update will be started at the same time across all systems.

After eight years Warframe‘s player are face an old enemy: The sentient ones. That is a artificial race of beings who used to be the main enemies of the Orokin during the Old War. Now they’re back, hence the name of this expansion, The New War. Smart!

In the New War expansion, fans can play as Corpus Engineer Veso, Grineer Soldier Kahl-175, and Dax warrior Teshin for the first time in a quest. (I do not play Warframe enough to know who these people are, but Veso is a fun name. Veso. VESO.) Digital Extremes even showed off some of this multi-character action during the great gameplay reveal.

During the stream, the developers stated that this update not only looks forward, but also looks back into the universe’s past, and even shows the origins of the Tenno itself.

To reflect the narrative arc of all of the Tennos who come together to defeat the Sentients, Digital Extremes announced that it will unite players across all platforms about cross-play and cross-save later that year. It also featured a mobile port in development. And, beginning With this New War update, all future updates will be released simultaneously on all platforms.

This is how Digital Extremes describes the state of Warframe in the run-up to the The New War update:

With the most powerful bastion on earth, Cetus, on fire and the pride of the Corpus fleet in ruins, the combined strength of the Tenno and their allies could be the key to this new war.

The developers called it their largest and most extensive quest line ever during a live demo of the new update. The expansion development was due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. It was announced first back in 2019, something the developers were joking about along the way TennoLive.

Unfortunately, dDuring the live stream, Warframe suffered severe server problems due to the unexpected number of players signing up to play the game and take part in a limited-time season event that featured some new content. In fact, some of the developers involved in the live stream monitored the server issues in real time and apologized to fans who signed up and couldn’t play at the event. Servers, they always fail when you need them most!
