The Silent Hill movie franchise is getting a reboot. During the announcement stream of Konami’s Silent Hill Transmission, which revealed a new remake of the game Silent Hill 2the company also announced that it will be bringing the franchise back to theaters with a completely reimagined film. Return to Silent Hill is directed by the director of the original 2006 Silent Hill film.
Return to Silent Hill follows a similar plot to the original Silent Hill 2 Game in which a man goes to Silent Hill in search of the lost love of his life. Instead, he finds a total nightmare of monsters and horror, including the infamous Pyramid Head, one of the most recognizable and iconic characters in the series.
According to Rui Naito, who introduced himself on stream as Konami’s head of IP and cross-media development for Silent Hill, both the new game and film came as part of a pitch from Victor Hadida, one of the 2006 producers silent Hill
This is Gans’ second time working in the Silent Hill universe, having helmed the underrated, awesome first film adaptation of the franchise. After Gans got in, the series transitioned to 2012 Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, directed by MJ Bassett (Ash vs the Evil Dead), which was poorly received and brought the series to a cinematic halt.
Along with the new movie and remake, Konami’s Silent Hill Transmission live stream also announced new games to be called Silent Hill f and Silent Hill: City Fall.
