The Overwatch 2 loading screen hides creepy guys you can’t see

surveillance 2 is being haunted right now, and no, it’s not because of that the game is buggy as hell. If you’ve recently booted up Blizzard’s hero shooter, you might have noticed some spooky avatars scattered around a certain loading screen, stuck in super creepy A and T poses. How fitting, especially as we’re getting frighteningly close to Halloween.

surveillance 2 came to a bevy of issues this month, from long queues to locked characters. The game didn’t have a smooth launch, to say the least. But now that things are mostly under control – although some issues still remain – players are being freaked out by something less urgent but more unsettling: strange avatars posing on the Ilios loading screen.

This is a Capture the Flag and Control map, one of the few carried over from the OG game that just shut down in the wake of surveillance 2‘s rocky start. It’s not a scary map in and of itself, given the beautiful sun setting in the background and the elegant architecture that populates the place. However, things only get scarier when you take a closer look at what players have been up to lately. Anywhere on the internet, from Reddit to Twitterare screenshots of some disturbingly little gray guys being frozen in random A and T poses during the Ilios loading screen.

my box booted surveillance 2 to verify that those spooky mannequins were actually there, and yes, they are at the time of this writing. We made a custom game and waited for the Ilios loading screen only to find the bizarre avatars standing there like scarecrows or something, waiting to scare any players stupid enough to look for them. This is all likely random coincidence, a possible holdover during game development, or something in between.

Given the speed at which Blizzard is tweaking the game to address the various issues plaguing the live-service hero shooter, it’s possible this oversight will be short-lived. Compared to some other issues that players are facing such as: Of course, having a few tiny guys in the background that most might not even notice is probably low on the priority list, like locked rosters or the incessant disconnects. Still creepy, especially when you weren’t expecting it.

After launching on October 4th, the hero shooter was quite a mess. It suffered multiple DDoS attacks that made it unplayable for some, had a Chat bug that randomly bought skins in game without the player’s consent peppered with an error message that blocked people from playing with her friends and a host of other problems that are still ongoing. Those trying to play now will also find characters like Torbjorn and Bastion that have disappeared from some game modes as Blizzard tries to fix issues with their ability kits.
