Indie developer Neal Agarwal, better known as Neal.fun, makes video games that are very small but also very good. his latest, The password gameis the perfect example: it’s hell trying to find a password for an app or website account, and somehow it gets as far from hell as possible.
It starts out as the worst part of any account creation process: you’ll be asked to create a password. Only the password you chose does not contain enough capital letters. If this is the case, there are not enough special characters. Then it’s not long enough. Then it’s too long. And even though it didn’t tell you anything about it, it just thought you would knowledge.
“Then just let Google choose your password, why are you complaining about it on a blog about a little video game?” OK, sure, but then Google often saves it with the wrong username or weird app URL that doesn’t match the company’s name /the website and it’s tedious to even retrieve the saved password and basically what I’m saying is that I used to laugh at my parents because they wrote all their internet passwords in a notebook but now I understand that they might have been right all along.
Anyhow, I’m sorry, this game lacks the Google/Save drama, but it certainly covers the process of password creation itself in much clearer and more concise detail than this post turned out to be, so if so today you have a few minutes – and it’s playable in browser so you can do it even when you’re at work –You can watch it here.
