Finally confirmation: The Sandman will return to our screens. Netflix and Neil Gaiman confirmed late Wednesday that the streamer has ordered more episodes of the fantasy drama, which adapts Gaiman’s classic comic.
Gaiman announced the news on twitter with a short teaser video showing Morpheus’ iconic mask emerging from a blanket of sand. “The rumors are true,” he wrote. “Netflix is thrilled that so many of you were watching sandmanand what we all hoped would happen…did happen…”

There is no news on when the second season will be released, nor how many episodes it will have. In particular, neither the press release was sent to the media nor the history In Netflix’s official news organ, Tudum uses the word season at every point and only promises “more episodes”. It’s possible that a shorter or longer season has been ordered – or that decision hasn’t been made yet.
Plot details are also under wraps, although “stories need to be adjusted by several The Sandman Graphic Novels” promised. The main creative team of Allan Heinberg, David S. Goyer and Gaiman remains. In a statement, Gaiman said:
Millions and millions of people have welcomed it, seen it and loved it The Sandman on Netflix, established by sandman Fans to people who were just curious and then became obsessed with the Lord of Dreams, his family and their doings. I’m incredibly excited to say that Allan Heinberg, David Goyer and I will be bringing more of this to you by working with Netflix and Warner Bros The Sandman
stories to life. There are some amazing stories waiting for Morpheus and the rest of them (not to mention more members of the Endless Family to meet). No one will be happier about this than the Sandman cast and crew: they are the biggest Sandman fans out there. And now it’s time to get back to work. After all, a family dinner is coming up. And Lucifer is waiting for Morpheus to return to Hell…
“And now we get to know the rest of the Endless!” Göyer added.
Three months have passed since then The Sandman made its Netflix debut, and waiting for news about a second season was anxious. (Though it’s fair to note that if Netflix had been releasing an episode of the show every week rather than the whole thing at once, Netflix would have only recently wrapped up.) As Netflix’s growth slows and production coffers are tightened, there have been concerns that with a reported budget of $15 million per episode, The Sandman might be too expensive to continue.
However, an agreement appears to have been reached. And that’s great news, because The Sandman emerged from decades of development hell as the best adaptation we could wish for.
