femdom, a small game on steam for managing gladiators, is currently being bombarded by users after the latest patch notes for the game featured an unrelated tirade about people wearing masks during the pandemic. The news also explains that wearing a mask “gets you flat” and seems to imply that parts of the ongoing pandemic are “lies”.
Back on March 8th femdom on Steam has been updated. The update included some fixes and some new content. But the patch notes for this update also contained a tiradeShe slipped right in that people even more than you probably expected to “take the FCKN masks off” before they get off the rails.
Here’s the full, completely unedited message as it currently appears in the patch notes for version 1.3.18 of the game:
“TAKE OFF THE FCKN MASKS – Next time you’re in the supermarket, try showing your face to a woman. Be confident, don’t be afraid of the LIES – you might get a girlfriend. Women like confidence. Women don’t like guys who cover their faces in fear. What are you afraid of? Getting laid? Grow up.”
There’s a lot to unpack. For starters, it’s not clear what “READ” the writer of this message is talking about. Do they mean masks don’t work? Are they suggesting the pandemic is a hoax? It is unclear. It’s also bizarre how much this anti-mask rant focuses on the idea that masks make it hard for men to get laid. And the ending with “Grow up” is just the icing on this weird shit sundae.
igamesnews contacted Valve about the message in the patch notes and also asked the developers behind it femdom to explain what “lies” they implied in the note.
Since I posted the update a few days ago, femdom was hit by hundreds of negative Steam reviews. The game currently has a rating status of “Overwhelmingly Negative”, a sharp drop from the previously held status of “Very Positive”.
As one Steam reviewer explained in his negative review of the game, this whole situation is just embarrassing and sad.
“Anti-Masker developers use their patch notes as a glorified Twitter feed. Awkward.”
After the backlash and ongoing review bombardment, the game’s official Twitter account tried, as the kids say, to tweet about it.
Recent tweets have mentioned the “wake mob” and “cancel culture” while also announcing that the anti-mask rant included in the patch notes is simply the studio suggesting people to be braver.
As discovered by PC gamer, things get even sadder when you start browsing past update notes for the game. It’s becoming clear that someone working on this game – or at least controlling their Steam account –is full of bad takes. For example an earlier one The update included patch notes that ranted about people watching too much porn.
