Animal Crossing: New Horizons The 2.0 update promised a barrage of new elements – and a few weeks after it was released, it’s clear that the update has absolutely delivered. Players are busy collecting adorable new spinning tops, utilizing glowing moss and tendrils, and adding partitions and hanging lighting to their interiors. There are also many new useful items for beautiful island design, from castle towers for fort construction to pergolas and pavilions for gardens.
But there are also a handful of slightly quirkier items that players have come across that have started working in builds. Here are some of the most popular Polygon off the beaten path items that you could find at Nook’s Cranny.
Rescue doll
This has been causing a sensation since players first discovered it. If you’ve ever completed lifeguard training or just taken CPR classes, you may be familiar with this type of mannequin. But it also looks a lot like a crash dummy, or just a body replacement – and players have found tons of fun ways to use it Recreate movie scenes, and generally cause chaos and chaos.
Titan Arum (Corpse flower)
This strange looking plant is none other than the infamous Titan Arum, or amorphophallus titanum – Colloquially known as the corpse flower, thanks to the pungent smell these real plants give off on the rare occasions of their flowering. If you’re thinking of buying this bad boy, you might want to know that the stink has been compared to that of “rotting meat.” after The Huntington, a California botanical garden, library and research center with one of the rare flowers. (They called their “Stinky”.)
The corpse flower is one of the tallest flowers there is – this phallic-looking spadix can grow anywhere from two to eight feet. It rarely blooms and only stays open for one day. But when you buy it from the Nook Brothers, you can enjoy its amazing smell all year round.
Cold Sleep Pod
Should you or any of your villagers foresee the need to go into the cold, hard stasis of cryogenic sleep, the Nook brothers are here to help. This vaguely ominous-looking capsule is a science fiction fanatic’s dream come true – and space-themed builds have always been a core component of the New Horizons, with existing items such as a UFO or Celeste Starry Night items. But it’s still staggering to see it sell at Nook’s Cranny.
Scary skeleton
A pile of bones is a gloomy sight, but at least this item has “creepy” in its name. Are these bones … real? Are these props? If the skeleton is real, it’s especially worrying to buy it from the Nook brothers, who sell it on the counter alongside housewares like typewriters and chairs.
That said, this is a perfect item for anyone who’s a die-hard fan of Halloween, has a creepy island theme, or is building an archeology-themed island.
Vine hanging chair
This one might look cute and seem like a perfectly normal addition – but I’ve personally decided it’s cursed. Major gives me this hanging wine chair Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone vibes, with a tangle that looks apt to be consumed by anyone who is unlucky enough to take a seat in it. Besides, doesn’t it even look comfortable? That said, even if I personally wouldn’t sit in it, it looks great along with other new wine items.
