House of the Dragon is full of characters and it can be hard to keep track of them even when you see them on screen all the time. But now that season two has begun, the world of the show is expanding, which means we’re starting to see some new characters that we don’t yet know how they’re going to fit into the world. And while some of them don’t appear in the show often, some others seem pretty important.
This kind of expansion of scope is quite typical for the second season of a television series – after all game of Thrones Season 2 was a massive expansion of the first. Of course, we’ll eventually learn a little more about each of these characters and how they fit into the Dance of Dragons, but for now, here’s a quick update on the new faces and what we know about them.
[Ed note: This post contains descriptions of characters from the first two episodes of House of the Dragon season 2, but does not have spoilers for anything later in the season.]
Hugh Hammer
Hugh is the blacksmith who asked Aegon for extra money for the forge in the first episode of the second season – shortly after Aegon heard the farmer’s complaint. Although he may not have seemed like a major character at the time, Hugh reappeared in episode 2, in a scene with his wife where we see the plight of the common people in King’s Landing. While House of the Dragon certainly gives the audience more room to gain insight into the impact of the Dance of Dragons on the little people of Westeros. But something about Hugh’s striking silver hair tells us that he has more to do in this story than just alert us to the discontent of the mob.
Addams of Hull
Addam is the sailor we see briefly in the first two episodes of the season. He meets with Corlys Velaryon, who thanks him for saving his life and pulling him out of the sea after their fleet was ambushed. We also see Addam’s brother, Alyn. But aside from those two facts, his destination remains far more mysterious than anyone else’s so far this season.
