Twitch streamer and YouTuber Simply tried the unthinkable: In just 12 hours, he set about learning the very tricky speedrun The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and successfully complete one as soon as possible. The speed running challenge was insane, full of fatalities and glitches to make for an incredibly enjoyable watch, even if the feat wasn’t Exactly fulfilled as intended.

OTW Speed runs are absolutely cracked. Accordingly Speedrun.comA website that tracks speedruns for various games earlier this month set the fastest time for Nintendo’s smash hit of 2017 is currently almost 24 minutes from noted OTW Speedrunner Player 5. This was for the Any Percent Challenge, a feat in which a player strives to roll the credits as quickly as possible without worrying about completing all the main quests or side activities. There are other speed running categories that add additional conditions to up the ante such as: B. hitting all dungeons or shrines, but sometimes you just want vanilla, you know? (Unless you’re speedrunner Limcube, who recently collected all the hoes scattered around Hyrule in under 30 minutes because he was just bored and desperate.)
All this is to say that simply, a speed runner who has run a few Super Mario 64 Categories over the years wanted to see if he can beat OTW as quickly as possible vanilla-style. In other words, he was trying to experience any one percent of Link’s latest adventure. However, to give this vanilla a little more flavor like a French vanilla or vanilla bean, Simply added an extra challenge to the mix: get a solid time in the open-world action-adventure game as a total newbie in the any percentage Category 12 hours or less. The results were hilarious and have now been edited into a fun half hour video that really lets you feel the struggle of Simply.
Simply’s quest to become “the best speedrunner of all time”.
In the April 18 YouTube videoJust started explaining how OTW any percent speedruns will work. You start by collecting Link’s rune abilities like Magnesis and Stasis from the four main shrines on the Great Plateau so you can grab the glider for air travel. From there you book it to gossip to Hyrule Castle the four blight ganons out of existence before defeating the great evil itself, misfortune Ganon. Just had to learn from a plethora of glitches Shield clips to get into shrines faster To the BLSS technique to fly around the Great Plateauto complete his timed challenge, all in a bid to become “the best speedrunner ever”. But the learning here was the hard part.
Just died a few times trying to skip the intro section of the game. However with scope clip And whistle sprint– two glitches locking the game into his daily cycle and keeping Link’s stamina respectively – he was able to exit the initial shrine and skip the first cutscene. From there, Simply gathered his first gear (after a few more deaths, of course) to keep breaking OTW with glitches. Using the BLSS technique mentioned above and the shield clip bug next to it The wind bomb moves catapulting Link several feet into the air, simply collect all four rune abilities, then snatch the glider from the old man (aka King Rhoam) at the Great Plateau Tower. This was about three hours into his 12 hour challenge. So he ran it back to see if he could handle this sequence of events in less than 35 minutes. The wind bomb move set him back quite a bit. So is a death. Unfortunately he didn’t make it under 35 minutes but he still made a good time. After only four hours into his 12 hour challenge, Simply had enough time to beat the game.

Limcube entered the chat to help Simply with his speed run
Limcube who remarked OTW Speedrunner responsible for March’s hacking challenge tried to give Simply some clues to complete his speedrun, which only gets harder as you dash into Hyrule Castle and the upcoming fight against Calamity Ganon. After collecting mushrooms to cook some Mighty Mushroom Skewers, which buffs Link’s attack damage for 13 minutes, simply used the BLSS technique to infiltrate Hyrule Castle and avoid any patrolling Guardians in the area. He picked up some weapons with greater durability, hoping to make the upcoming fights a little easier. Unfortunately, they weren’t easy enough because despite the coaching he received from Limcube, including performing a glitch to easily kill him Windrot Ganon
Normally, casual players would have completed the four Divine Beast dungeons to bring Calamity Ganon down to half health. At this point, you’d probably have more than three hearts as well, allowing Link to survive more than a single hit during the final encounter. But Simply learned the arbitrary percentage route, which in the interest of driving fast does none of that. So not only did he have to fight all four Blight Ganons back-to-back, but he also had to defeat Calamity Ganon while he was still healthy, which was a tall order for even the most experienced OTW Player. I’m sure you can imagine what happened. If you can’t, let me just tell you: just died. Over and over again, with every attempt light better than the last. He easily completed the challenge, sure enough, but not in 12 hours or less like he had hoped. Instead, Simply’s final time to learn and successfully complete any percentage run was around 12 hours and 40 minutes. His total speedrun time? A little under five hours. Not the fastest OTW Speedrun out there, but hey, at least he did it, and that’s probably faster than most of us would have.

I love stuff like that. The determination it takes to assert yourself despite the insurmountable, albeit self-imposed, challenge in front of you. It’s amazing to watch, especially considering that Simply could have just finished the feat once it got difficult. But he did not do it. It’s a nice reminder that anything is possible if you try hard enough…and get a little coaching from a speedrunning champion.
