Happy Friday: this special edition of the Xbox One X comes with a light gffiti in the dark of "No Future." That's probably right.
I'm not down with this Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox One X when it leaked on the Canadian Walmart website yesterday. Instead of something light and neon-fueled, it looks to me like the kind of colorful scarf that you can use as a pillow if you live in a hiding place. But this light-in-the-dark light is just me.
Under normal circumstances, the phrase “There Is No Future” is likely to qualify as a genre real bad graffiti that tries to tie you over the head with the game's darker themes. See "What happens when the food runs out?" in Last to Us or "No one will save us from death!" in Refined. Did you know that things are not going well in this world? Didn't zombies, assault rifles, and declining civilian commands not convey that well? If not, check the side of this concrete below.
But 2020 feels like you're asking for something more. Obviously, it requires a console that removes the obvious, unnecessary graffiti of the game and into our living rooms. It requires a console that reminds us that “There is no future” even in the dark, even when it is closed.
If I wasn't planning on buying the Xbox Series X I'd probably split this One X up to enjoy its timeless epigram, wherever I always am.
