Someone made a mod for the original Final Fantasy VII which adds full voice acting to Square Enix’s mega popular RPG from 1997.
the FFVII Voice Mod, called Echo S7was created by Tsunamods, a team of modders specializing in retexturing and upscaling 3D models for the final fantasy Series. According to Tsunamods, the Echo-S 7 mod was made with speakers from the YouTube channel studio stills Run through his speech lines and character barks. Make sure your headphones are securely plugged into your laptop before playing, because these low-poly eco-terrorists (affectionately) curse quite a bit. Echo-S 7 is released today (how lucky).
“The script used in this mod is actually the original Japanese script, correctly retranslated compared to the poor original we received,” Tsunamods wrote in the video’s description box. “Although admittedly, we adjusted it to sound more human because text fields can be read quite differently than when spoken aloud.”
For example, instead of Tifa saying “Shake it off. Let’s try again.” While the Reactor’s opening sequence requires her, Cloud, and Barrett to press a button at the same time, Tifa gradually grows more frustrated when players fail the infamous mini-game .
“It seems we added too much swearing specifically in the trailer,” Tsunamods wrote on YouTube. “There really isn’t that much in the mod, it was just random in areas/features we wanted to show. So maybe we misrepresented ourselves a little there.”
The Echo-S 7’s voice output is pretty awesome. However, I’m biased because his vocal performances sound like a playable version of Team Four Stars Final Fantasy Machina abridged YouTube series. Before Echo-S 7, Tsunamods made a quality-of-life mod for FFVII called cosmo memory which replaced the game’s sound effects and added ambient field sounds and battle sounds, among other things. Tsunamods documented their work process on the Echo-S 7 on their Twitch Channel
Suppose you belong to the silent majority final fantasy believers who believe Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy IX deserves voice mod treatment alongside Square Enix’s flagship, FFVII. In that case you are in luck because Tsunamods is also working on language modifications for these titles and say about it in a comment my city not to worry that these “also last 7 years”.
“I promise you, this shit took us years. And we don’t get paid either,” Tsunamods wrote. “We wouldn’t waste all this time trying to ruin the very game we love and have been working on for years.”
