TikTok has already conquered the world. Millions of people (including me…) spend far too many hours on the popular video sharing app, watching thousands of bite-sized, often very funny, clips created by other users. And now, seemingly to suck away the few remaining hours of your day, the company behind it is currently testing ways to integrate games right into the app.
This news comes out via a report Reuters was published yesterday detailing plans by TikTok and parent company ByteDance to add video games to the video-sharing service. And you may not have to wait too long to play it. It is reported that users in Vietnam have been able to access games for a while now as the app uses its younger, more tech-savvy audience there as a test market.
ReutersSources say TikTok plans to launch games in more parts of Southeast Asia later this year.
Technically, TikTok has presented a few small games in the past, including a game by Zynga called Crazy disk 3D. But this forthcoming expansion of the platform’s gaming capabilities will pull games from ByteDance’s already large library of mobile distractions. Just in case you’re wondering how the company is supposed to make money from all this, TikTok’s games will reportedly feature ads; ByteDance will pocket a percentage of the profits, with the rest going to the developers. No details were given on how this split will collapse.

As noted by ReutersPeople using ByteDance douyinthe separate Chinese version of TikTok, have been playing games on their version of the video-sharing app since 2019.
TikTok is just the latest example of a non-gaming company trying to squeeze some games into its already popular apps and services. Netflix recently started adding games to his app as part of a bigger push into gaming.
