Starting this week, streamers on Twitch will have over 350 new tags that they can use to classify their streams based on “gender, sexual orientation, race, nationality, ability, mental health and more”.
Pull out announced The expansion of the tag system late last week said they are “entirely optional” and “just give developers more choices.” Some of these options to help users better focus and promote what they are doing are “Transgender, Black, Disabled, Veteran, and Vtuber”.
Of course, with over 350 new tags, there are a lot more than these examples, and Twitch says it has worked with “third party organizations like GLAAD, The Trevor Project, AbleGamers, SpecialEffect, and other experts who have focused on advancing underrepresented races and ethnic groups Groups, LGBTQIA +, disabled and marginalized communities. “
They also got feedback from the wider Twitch community itself, with users asking for more specific tags like this one since the tag system launched in 2018.
“We know the tag requirement is taking much longer to implement than expected, and we sincerely appreciate your persistence, feedback, and patience,” said Twitch says. “Now and always, it helps us make a better twitch for everyone.”
