If you have visited Félix “xQc” Lengyel’s twitch channel Lately you’ve noticed that he’s been doing a lot Grand Theft Auto Online Role playing and reactions to video content. It’s good. It’s his channel, so he can do whatever he wants with it… or maybe not? A small but vocal portion of its million-strong community hates this stuff so much that the streamer gets harassed and a Twitter account run by fans uninterrupted for months.
Yesterday xQcOWUpdates Twitter, a news source for all things xQc’s streams, tweeted about “hostile complaints and targeted harassment.” it has been suspended for the past few weeks or so. The abuse stems from a subset of the xQc fanbase who are fed up with both GTA Online
Additionally, some in the xQc community have taken it upon themselves to not just berate the streamer in his chat whenever he opens it GTA RP – by spamming something like “PepeAgony”, a memes of the titular frog grimacing in pain – but also to harass the xQcOWUpdates account for how often it tweets about xQc’s activities.
I understand getting tired of a certain game, but harassing someone for the games they are playing is unacceptable. It’s the channel of xQc. If people don’t like what he’s streaming, they can just walk away. There is certainly no shortage of content to check out on the platform. (Visit the new animal category.)
Additionally, there’s no reason to target a disconnected update account that merely provides news about what a specific person is doing on Twitch. Haters don’t have to tweet. Hell, people don’t even have to be online. go outside Touch some grass. Breathe in the fresh air. Literally do everything else when you watch xQcs GTA
The maintainer of xQcOWUpdates has reported it igamesnews that while it’s a small minority of the xQc community that spews venom, most of the annoyance is directed at those who actually enjoy frequenting it GTA RP streams.
“It’s pretty ridiculous how awful some people get because their favorite streamer isn’t playing a game they like,” said the account’s maintainer igamesnews. “The replies to our tweets have really become a breeding ground for this, which is why we released this statement yesterday. It seems like so many of these people have been banned from xQc chat so now they just come here to spit their vitriol out. We try our best to ignore the crappy comments, but while regular people in our community are also victims of targeted harassment…because they enjoy watching xQc play GTA RP if it bothers us.”
xQc has not yet commented on the toxicity in its community. He said on stream a few days ago that he doesn’t play too many games right now because games do “dog shit” and there is not much to play. xQcOWUpdates too shared screens from xQc’s twitch chat on January 24, in which xQc said the chat “literally just turned into complaints” and that he “has no desire to reward that behavior these days.” It seems xQc is sick of this shit too.
igamesnews asked xQc for a comment.
