Super Mario Odyssey on the Nintendo Switch? It’s a 1.5 player joint (it’s not true co-op, nobody wants to be the guard). This modified version of Super Mario Odyssey? Well, it’s a 10 player game, which makes it look more like that Super Mario Multiverse.
The mod (via Kotaku AU), through CraftyBossis called Super Mario Odyssey Online Multiplayer, and is out now. Its trailer makes it look like absolute chaos:
Ten Marios! The original game is absolutely not designed to have ten Marios. Even two Marios would do it. But a mod like this isn’t the place for discussions about what should be just what can be. And what can be done here is not just lots of Mario on screen at once, but collecting moons and syncing costumes between players:
Have fun exploring kingdoms with friends, playing game modes or finishing the game as fast as you can! This mod is still in an early stage of development, so expect bugs and not refined aspects as we are working hard to improve it and make the mod as polished as possible. Features:
– Explore kingdoms together with up to 10 people
– Almost every recording in the game is synchronized between players
– Full synchronization of 2D and costume models
– Moon Collection is shared by all players
– Custom configuration menu (Accessible by holding ZL and selecting any option in the pause/start menu)
– Support for custom game modes (WIP).
Which all sounds amazing and fun, until you remember that as a modded Switch gaming experience, you have to be jumping through hoops for this to work. As Kotaku AU reportin this case it means: “Unfortunately, the kicker is that anyone playing will have to use a modded Nintendo Switch as well as the Super Mario Odyssey ROM”.
