Update Minecraft and your world could be destroyed

When you play Minecraft Be careful before updating the popular open-world survival game on PC with the Xbox app. Developer Mojang says you may end up destroying the worlds you save – unless you make digital repairs.

On March 15 around 2:30 a.m. ESTMojang’s official support account on Twitter warned all PC gamers using the Xbox app about the update Minecraft via the app. “If you do this, your worlds could be lost,” Mojang said like a scowling and overly dramatic cartoon villain.

So what should Minecraft Players on PC who use the Xbox app instead do this? Well, you have to download a separate tool – Gaming Services Repair Tool – and then run that software first before installing any updates Minecraft.

“Using this tool will update the Gaming Services to version 19.87.13001.0, thereby avoiding the update error,” he says Microsoft on its official support page. There, players will find instructions on how to download and run the tool. It seems like a lot to ask people to do just to play a game through your launcher. But the alternative is that all of your worlds may be destroyed.

Minecraft Players report that years of saved games have been deleted

At least some replies to Microsoft’s tweet suggest that some people lost saved worlds for years after the update Minecraft. “2.5 years of stuff, including a lot of Javascript projects from last year,” one person said. “Same here, updated on Tuesday, all gone,” another replied. Over at the Mojang Bugs TrackerOther players have reported losing all of their worlds. It appears that the bug has been affecting some people for at least two days.

Oddly enough, as far as I can tell, Microsoft hasn’t reported this issue on other areas of the Internet. The most important Minecraft Twitter account, with over 7 million followers, didn’t share the support tweet or mention that people might want to use this tool to protect their worlds from Thanos snatching them away with an update on PC. Instead, as of this writing, this major account’s latest tweet is just a Pi Day joke.

Hopefully the cause of this issue with the Xbox PC app will be resolved soon and people won’t have to jump through strange hoops to play a game they already own and have probably enjoyed for years.
