Valheim is a fun craft survival game to play with a group of friends in the Viking afterlife, and the board game adaptation is off to a great start. A crowdfunding campaign starts on Tuesday Valheim: The Board Game went live on Gamefound and has already reached 300% funding. There are no challenging objectives for the game, as the developer has chosen to deliver a complete, centralized experience – but there are some fun extras that players can commit to alongside the game itself.
We interviewed developer Ole Steiness about the design of the board game back in June. A two-hour session is designed to mimic the development of gaming Valheim on a server with friends. This means there are roles for everyone, even players who prefer to maintain the homestead. “You have to develop yourself and your home to meet this challenge,” explained Steiness. “You will explore the map, which will consist of tiles on the board, and events will take place and creatures will appear to challenge you. As you fight your way through, you’ll collect resources so you and your friends can build a cool character and home until you face the big boss fight at the end of the game.”
Mood Publishing showed off an 18-minute trailer showing how the game could unfold, with a group of Vikings banding together to take on Bonemass. There is also a solo mode for players who prefer to travel alone.
The crowdfunding campaign runs until October 21st; The board game’s expected release date is October 2025. Players can also secure additional extras such as an exclusive dice set, a play mat and a stylish dice tower. The Collector’s Edition is one way to purchase these extras, and it also comes with a classy gold foil box with holographic cards.
