Valheim is a fantastic sandbox survival game set in a fantastic 10th realm of the Norse afterlife. Adventurers explore more dangerous biomes from the peaceful meadows, and today the most dangerous yet is available to explore. The last biome update affected the Mistlands; Today players can venture into the Ashlands.

Of course, this is much easier said than done, as the Ashlands is a very hostile environment. The Vikings must build ships strong enough to survive in the boiling waters, and things don’t get any better after they land. Undead called Charred roam the land, a fearsome fallen Valkyrie attacks from the sky, and a beastly creature called Morgen hunts prey alongside other enemies.

Luckily, new enemies mean new loot that can be converted into new weapons. Flametal can be crafted into a new greatsword, spear, and crossbow, and further enhanced with jade, bloodstone, and isoite gems. Building outposts in the Ashlands is said to feel like a constant battle, and the Charred control the area from fortresses. Fortunately, players can now craft siege weapons. Using catapults and battering rams, players can directly attack fortresses, extending their reach across the new biome.

“Ashlands should feel like a battle and players should expect a challenge. Every square inch of territory you claim must be fought for, and every outpost must be reinforced before you advance deeper. We are entering endgame territory here and players must be prepared for what lies ahead in the deep north,” said Andreas Tomasson, Valheim producer, in a press release.

Valheim is available on PC and is still in Early Access. The Viking survival game saw a big launch in 2021, thanks to developer Iron Gate’s ability to create a compelling range of experiences across all biomes, from cozy and comfortable to the quest for survival. The game remained relevant until 2024, attracting an audience of survival game fans. The Mistlands update added a mysterious mountainous region to the game with poor visibility and insectoid enemies, but the Ashlands sounds like a whole new level of danger.
