Artifact it was an unmitigated disaster. Valve's attempt to join the card game genre didn't take off as much as the developer had hoped, but that didn't mean he was giving up. In a recent interview with Edge Magazine, Valve founder and CEO Gabe Newell said the company is working on a major restructuring of Dust 2 interactive card game.
Newell told Edge that the refurbishment would be a "bigger reboot," which he thought was necessary to make it sound to the players. Newell admitted that Valve was surprised when the first version of the game met with a poor response, and called it a failed experiment. However, he said the team was now working to take all the players' dislikes and prepare them for a new edition.
Artifact released in December 2018 at the lobby. As players gained more knowledge of the game's genius and its market, the reception grew colder, and the player's place began to disappear completely. In March 2019, Valve announced some updates to the game, allowing it to go back and consider major changes. In May, the Twitch channel of the game was so sterile that it became the talk of broadcasting all kinds of illegal videos under Artifact section.
Since then, Valve has continued in silence Artifact – until this Story from Edge. While Newell announces that Valve is now working on more major launches, it's not entirely clear if that will take the form of an original game review, or a full sequel. Edge reports that Valve referred to the project as Artifact 2 internally, but it's not clear if that is actually a sequel, or because it brings a lot of change to the game.
No word yet on when this update, or new game, could be released, but Newell used the word "ready to roll" when referring to development team development. While his choice of words is complicated, it can mean just about anything, so we'll have to wait for Valve to provide more details in public to know when this version has been updated. Artifact will be available.
